Ishaan Jagyasi, also known by his artist name ‘knordest’, is a Recording Engineer, Spatial Audio Specialist, Mixing/Mastering Engineering, Music Producer, Creative Technologist, Audio Visual Artist and Drummer from Mumbai, India. After completing his Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, his love for music and curiosity for audio technology motivated him to do a Masters in Music in Music Production, Technology and Innovation from Berklee College of Music, Valencia, Spain, where his thesis work in the field of Spatial Audio (Dolby Atmos), Sound Design and Electronic Music Production was considered worthy of distinction and received outstanding achievement.
As a recording engineer, Ishaan has worked on over 25 professional recordings in studios around Valencia, Spain and Mumbai, India which include songs by artists like Ananya Sharma (India), Kurtis Li (London/Hong Kong), Martyna Kubicz aka MINt (Poland/Germany/Spain), Tereza Froncova (Slovakia), Rachel Groves (UK), Mirza Redzepagic (Bosnia/Serbia), Djessy Van Den Dries (Netherlands), Shabnam J Kermani (USA/Iran), Ana Vazquez Landeros (USA), Yusef Musharbash (Jordan), Akshay Baheti (India), Mandy Woo (China/Canada), Cecilia Barra Caraciolo (Italy), Elana Sasson (Iran/Kurdistan/USA), Mike Delgado (USA), Robed Fenelus (USA), Ale Cabrini (Italy) and more. During his time at Berklee, Ishaan also had the privilege to engineer sessions produced by Grammy nominated producer, vocalist and jazz pianist Patrice Rushen.
Ishaan is also an avid spatial audio enthusiast and his wish to explore the realm of spatial audio led him to incorporate different spatial audio mixing techniques in his workflow. In 2023, he worked alongside Grammy nominated musician Jorge I. Vazquez to mix singer Deni Morales’s album ‘Eternamente Enamorado’ in Dolby Atmos format.
With his in-depth knowledge about audio and sound engineering, he has als been actively working as mastering engineer and his mastering catalogue includes songs from artists such as MINt, Kurtis Li, I5HAN, Anukriti Menon and Deni Morales.
As a music producer, Ishaan has worked on multiple songs in the genres of Electronic, Rnb, Indie-rock, Indie-pop, Electro-pop and more. Some of his recent projects as a producer are ‘Kaise Smajhau Mein’ by singer-songwriter Tanishq Seth, ‘That’s my purse! - EP’ by the experimental band ‘That’s my purse’, ‘Temporary Lovers’ by singer songwriter Anukriti Menon, and ‘Bahana’, ‘Vulnerable’ and ‘Tu hai ke nahi’ by indie band ‘LCR.
He also makes his own music under his artist moniker ‘knordest’ and it is heavily inspired by art, science, technology, psychology and textures. Currently he is in the process of releasing his 5 track Electronica/IDM EP called ‘Syncope’, which is a collection of immersive songs made to provide an enhanced listening experience with the use of intense sound design, emotive harmonic structures and spatial audio. In the recent past he has also collaborated with Pianist Tereza Froncova (Slovakia) on combining her vocal and piano pieces with nature influenced organic sound design and ambiences created using multiple audio synthesis techniques and a pitch Max for Live device for pitch detection, designed by Ishaan himself. He also worked with Harpist Rachel Groves (Scotland) to combine scottish folk harp compositions with ambient music.
With his immense fascination for art and technology, Ishaan explores ways to combine his music with digitally generated visuals with the help of visual design softwares like Max/MSP, TouchDesigner, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Processing. He has experimented with multiple different experimental and generative ways of creating audio reactive and generative art using feedback systems, particle growth, slit scan techniques, computer vision, noise mapping, real time parameter mapping and more. During his time at Berklee, he set up a duo Audio Visual project called ‘J.2’ with fellow classmate and art enthusiast Shabnam J. Kermani (Iran/USA) and, they both worked on putting together and performing several AV shows with experimental IDM music and black and white reactive audio visuals. As a duo, they also got invited to perform and conduct a masterclass on ‘Setting up Audio Reactive Systems in Cycling74 Max/MSP’ at Innovative Nomad Music and Tech Conference ‘23’ (INOCON) held in Valencia, Spain.
His very first musical passion was drums and he has been actively working as a drummer since 2018. He has performed at various venues in India and Spain has also worked as a session drummer for artists such as MINt, Ruven (Spain), Mike Delgado (USA), That’s My Purse, LCR and Mandy Woo.
In addition to music, audio technology and art, Ishaan is also exploring and practising web design and has experience working in web designing tools and softwares like Figma, Framer, Spline and Webflow. He is also a long time enthusiast of car tech and motor racing such as Formula 1, Rallying, Endurance Racing and E-Racing.
